Kim Kardashian and Dolce & Gabbana

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

"A match made in marketing heaven" says BoF for this collaboration and they sure are right.

Four years ago, Stefano Gabbana, one half of the designer duo that helms Italian label Dolce & Gabbana, allegedly called Kardashians "the most cheap people in the world" in an Instagram comment that was later deleted.

Now, the label has collaborated with mega-influencer Kim Kardashian for the brand's Spring/Summer 2023, co-designing the collection called "Ciao, Kim".

Kim selected and tweaked Dolce & Gabbana styles from the 1990s and early 2000s for the brand.

The runway's backdrop featured a black and white video of Kardashian eating spaghetti during the show. Some models wore large chokers that said "KIM" or "LOVE".

Among the audience were members of the Kardashian-Jenner family who flew to Milan to support Kim on her latest venture, including mother Kris Jenner, Jenner's boyfriend Corey Gamble, and sister Khloe Kardashian.

On Instagram, Kim reflected on the fashion show with a lengthy caption on Saturday evening. She also shared footage of the 19-minute show and a behind-the-scenes look on her account.

"What started as a conversation with Domenico & Stefano over dinner, lead to a months long adventure, with the goal to create the #CiaoKim collection, a curated selection of looks from the D & G archives," she wrote. "We went through every single look from 1987 onwards, literally books & books & I selected my personal favorites that I felt were the most iconic."

Teasing before the show

Kim had been teasing her new relationship with Dolce & Gabbana on Instagram before the runway show. She was spotted leaving the offices of the fashion house days before, dressed in a fabulous black catsuit.

Head of her runway moment, she posted a video with the caption, "An appetizer before the show" and added a time of Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CEST to tune in.

She then shared the video, in which she's sitting in the backseat of a car eating pizza while paparazzi try to take pictures of her. She's styled to look more Old Hollywood than in the first video, with a gown and glamorous curls in her hair. Again, the video ends with the hashtag #CiaoKim.

She also posted a black-and-white video Wednesday that shows her getting out of a private plane, accepting flowers, walking past paparazzi, and confidently leaving it all behind. The video ends with the hashtag #CiaoKim. She wrote in the caption, "Ciao Milano." In the video, she's wearing a bra-top and skirt combo with a coat off her shoulders. Sunglasses and an oversize cross necklace complete the look.

Kim Kardashian's Instagram videos were co-posted by the fashion house.
