40th Anniversary of London Fashion Week: The Best of SS25 Shows

Updated: 6 days ago

With its gloomy yet romantic atmosphere, London stands as the ideal fashion capital for those transitioning into autumn.

While London Fashion Week may not have been as dramatic as Paris, it consistently offers a unique perspective, showcasing the fusion of British fashion with diverse style movements. This year’s SS25 shows held particular significance, marking the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week.

Here are the key moments that captured the essence of this year's London Fashion Week:

A Theatrical Triumph: Burberry's SS25 Show at the National Theatre

Daniel Lee continues to bring his unique vision to Burberry, preserving its British heritage while adding a fresh, contemporary touch. This time, summer in London took the spotlight. As Lee described, the collection embodied "a feeling of lightness and summertime."

From vibrant colors to new silhouettes, Burberry's latest designs felt more accessible. At the same time, the beloved Burberry trench coat made a notable appearance on the runway, reimagined with innovative structures and fresh design elements, exciting its loyal fans.

The most British aspect of the collection (beyond Burberry itself) was its inspiration from artist Gary Hume, who also designed the show's set. Hume's use of color and surreal design sensibilities were seamlessly integrated, adding a bold artistic flair to Burberry’s timeless legacy.

Jonathan Anderson’s Masterpiece: JW Anderson SS25

Drawing inspiration from his work at LOEWE, which has taken the fashion world by storm, Jonathan Anderson once again demonstrates the limitless possibilities of design, even in ready-to-wear. The collection seamlessly blends innovative details, surreal patterns, and reflections of this year’s trends, elevated by vibrant fabrics and captivating structures.

The overall effect is a mesmerizing illusion, challenging the boundaries of fashion and adding a fresh dimension to our shared tastes. It’s a bold statement of how anything is possible in the world of style.

A Fairytale from Simone Rocha: Coquette Core with an Edge

Without a doubt, Simone Rocha is one of those designers who sparks pure excitement with every piece she creates. Her work is always inspiring, and joyful, and evokes a sense of calm.

This season, however, she brings all of that — with a touch of *heat.* The collection carries a flirtatious vibe, highlighted by transparent, lightweight fabrics, and sophisticated embroidery strategically placed on the cheekiest parts of the body, celebrating a strong, confident silhouette while maintaining a refined design perspective. The color palette features deep blacks, bold reds, and muted pinks, mixed with denim accents and experimental fabrics.

Simone Rocha also unveiled her third collaboration with Crocs on the runway, showcasing a fresh take on "pretty" with embellished ballerina flats and slip-ons, offering a playful twist to her signature style.

Welcome to Labrum SS25: The Game at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium

Labrum, led by Foday Dumbuya, took over Arsenal's Emirates Stadium for their SS25 show, spotlighting a quintessential aspect of UK culture: *football.*

Traditionally, the fashion industry has been slow to embrace football beyond sponsorships. Still, with the rising popularity of the Olympics and athletic-inspired trends, the lines between sports and fashion are blurring. Trends like jersey-core reworked vintage jerseys, and retro athletic styles have gained momentum—even among fashion enthusiasts. In this context, Labrum has undoubtedly scored.

The collection made a bold statement, fusing preppy aesthetics with asymmetrical designs, militaristic sets, raised panels, and uniform-inspired pieces, bringing a fresh take on sportswear and fashion’s evolving relationship with football.

Tolu Coker: The Emerging Star of Contemporary Design

The buzz-worthy brand Tolu Coker has captivated us for the upcoming season with its rich color palette, innovative cuts, and sleek contemporary style. Each piece exudes a bold, modern aesthetic while maintaining a sense of timeless elegance, making it one of the most anticipated collections of the year.

Nigerian designer Tolu Coker explained that this show is a deeply personal one, calling it a love letter to her mother and a tribute to the resilience and strength of immigrants. Through the collection, the designer seamlessly blends sustainable practices with strong, statement accessories, using fashion as a medium to tell a story of heritage, empowerment, and cultural pride. This unique combination of sustainability and personal storytelling makes the collection visually stunning and deeply meaningful.

As London Fashion Week SS25 wraps up, it leaves us inspired by the creativity and innovation showcased throughout the week. From bold colors to sustainable practices, the diverse collections reflect the dynamic spirit of the city and its fashion landscape.
